Information technology at John Spence

We aim to teach the students to use ICT sensibly; to plan what they need to do; to choose the appropriate software; to use it correctly; to evaluate what they have done; and on the basis of that evaluation to refine what they do in future.

In advanced courses we also aim to teach the students to appreciate the needs of users of ICT systems; to have an understanding of how these systems work and perform; and to design systems that meet the needs of users.

Courses Followed

In Key Stage 3 pupils follow The National Curriculum Course of Study.

In Key Stage 4 all pupils follow the OCR Ordinary National Award in ICT. This is a one GCSE equivalent course. Pupils get 2 hours per 2 week cycle for this.

Pupils who opt to take ICT as a vocational course follow the OCR Ordinary National Certificate in ICT. This is a four GCSE equivalent course. Pupils get 8 hours per 2 week cycle for this plus the two hours they would get for the core time allocation.
