The Young Apprenticeship in Sports Management, Leadership and Coaching Award is open to students who opt to take the BTEC First Diploma in Sport (Level 2) in Key Stage 4. The BTEC Sport Award is equivalent to 4 GCSE’s A* - C

The YA programme lasts for 2 years and is a mix of academic work, practical training and work experience.

Students complete 50 days of Work Related Learning as part of this award. Time out of school is kept to a minimum with students needing to show commitment to the programme out of school hours. A training allowance of £10 per day is paid to students for commitment to holiday and weekend placements.

The programme is designed to develop enterprise and employability skills.

Students support a range of sporting events held for schools in North Tyneside, organising, officiating and coaching. They also have the chance to work within leisure centres, activity camps and fitness studios
